conciencia plena y compasión

I've been lucky to partner with University of Washington (UW) Public Health Professor India Ornelas, co-conspirator Gigi Perez, and a team of undergrad and grad students to create and facilitate awareness and compassion programming for Latina immigrant women through Seattle non-profits Casa Latina and El Centro de La Raza and Yakima Valley organizations La Casa Hogar and Nuestra Casa as part of the ALMA (Amigas Latinas Motivando el Alma) community mental health project. After a pilot project funded by the UW Center for Child and Family Well-Being (CCFW), we were lucky enough to get to do an NIH-funded version of ALMA for 200 participants over the course of 5 years.  Additional CCFW funding also enabled us to do a social justice-oriented mindfulness and compassion program to reduce stress and increase well-being amongst Casa Latina staff.
